One of our tasks as conscious politics practitioners is to call it out the good stuff when we see it. It’s to praise and revel in it, honor and laud it, and thereby cultivate more of it because, of course, the law of attraction is always on. Given that “we don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are,” what follows is but one man’s take on a few ways the new consciousness is showing itself — the intent of which is to encourage infinitely more takes by infinitely more conscious politics practitioners. Oh yeah, I’m lookin’ at you.
I am euphoric about how much more there is to call out and revel in since Inauguration Day than will ever fit on this page. Indeed, there’s enough from just a few passages from the president’s address, herein annotated:
“A cry for racial justice, some 400 years in the making, moves us. The dream of justice for all will be deferred no longer.”
Justice. When we pursue justice, we pursue balance (“the scales of justice”). And when we pursue balance, we align ourselves with the nature of Nature, the planet, which always seeks balance (homeostasis). When we do so on purpose, consciously, we acknowledge that we belong to the planet, not the planet to us, that its nature is our nature. Our quest for justice mirrors Nature’s quest for homeostasis. It’s intrinsic to who we are as humans. Thus, attempts to deny or defer it cannot ever, ultimately, endure.
“Our souls, if you will, are bigger than us. They are in our bodies and beyond our bodies. It is our souls that call us to be part of ‘something greater than ourselves.’ The ways in which we are all connected are unmistakable on a soul level.”
Racial justice. When we talk about racial justice, we are — or could be — intending compassion. A society that works for everyone requires compassion — the willingness to listen to everyone for whom it is not working and doing whatever is necessary to insure that it does. Fairly. Equitably. By saying “justice for all will be deferred no longer,” President Biden seems to be listening, which is also compassion in action.
“The cry for survival comes from the planet itself, a cry that can’t be any more desperate or any more clear.”
Yet again, we belong to the planet, not the planet to us. What we do to it, we do to ourselves. To be a conscious politics practitioner is to pursue environmental policies that place the health and well-being of Earth on a par with our own because, among other things, its health is no different than ours.
“And now a rise of political extremism, white supremacy, domestic terrorism that we must confront and we will defeat.”
Truth. When I heard the president calling out White supremacy and domestic terrorism in his inaugural address I heard truth — like so much cream rising to the top, assuming its rightful place. Truth does that. The existence of White supremacy and domestic terrorism has been true for virtually all non-White, non-Christian, non-LGBTQ Americans and even many in law enforcement, particularly the FBI, for generations.
Change. When uttered by the president, however, in his inaugural address, it sounds new and different; it sounds like a change in direction. And guess what? Change is another trait of Nature what with it being in a constant state of change and all. When we political humans choose on purpose to change a policy because it has not served us well into one we believe will serve us better, when we pursue change in the name of justice it is, again, because our nature demands it. To resist it is futile.
“On this January day, my whole soul is in this: Bringing America together, uniting our people, uniting our nation. And I ask every American to join me in this cause.”
Soul. Mr. Biden’s campaign for president was predicated on “restoring the soul of America.” In this passage, quoting President Lincoln, he assures us that his whole soul is in this as was Lincoln’s. Meanwhile, the whole point of being a conscious politics practitioner is to remain connected to and conscious of our souls — the being part of the human beings we are. Our souls, if you will, are bigger than us. They are in our bodies and beyond our bodies. It is our souls that call us to be part of “something greater than ourselves.” The ways in which we are all connected are unmistakable on a soul level.
Unity. It is impossible to miss President Biden’s repeated calls for unity and what is unity if not a new consciousness idea? Indeed, what we call new consciousness actually goes by many names including, you guessed it, unity consciousness. We, not me. Interconnection and interdependence and, oops, there it is again. Nature itself is a unity ecosystem that we humans have corrupted and gone against by seeing ourselves as separate from it and having dominion over it. Thus, cultivating unity as a concept is yet another way for we humans to align with the nature of Nature and to take seriously the truth that we belong to the planet. That means our survival depends on going with the program and interconnecting. Damnit.
None of these or any of the hallmarks, traits, concepts, and characteristics of the new consciousness are new. We know what justice, racial justice, truth, change, soul, and unity are. What’s new is that these and all the others will go from optional to intrinsic in the new consciousness. They will be imperatives — the places from which everything happens. And then watch what happens.
NOTE: FYI, these are the 15 concepts that undergird our conscious politics practice:
Be Compassionate • Beliefs Matter • Be Present • Choices Abound • Everything Is Energy Have an Attitude of Gratitude • Intentions Matter • Judgments Separate Us • Listen to Inspiration • Mind and Body Are Connected • Take Responsibility • The Law of Attraction Is Always On • We Are All Connected • We Are Here for a Reason • We Belong to the Planet, Not the Planet to Us
Your heartfelt Likes, Comments, and Shares are like new-consciousness fairy dust sprinkled on the commons. Don’t hold back. :)
A breath of fresh air! Thank you, Steven.
I feel like the Earth took a giant sigh of relief last week when we rid ourselves of the toxic, hate-inspiring 45 and breathed in 46, his thoughts, beliefs, hopes, poet, and VP. I mean, phew! Four years is too long to hold our collective breath. Let's breath this in and move forward with purpose. Love your thoughts, as always, Steven.
