This could be stating the obvious...Personal Beliefs look a lot like Judgments. Particularly egregious when Beliefs, as you say, are presented as facts and shouted in the political discourse. In turn, facts = judgments...separate us. That sums up our current political dynamics, it seems to me. 😉
To be sure, some judgments are also beliefs: "the world is going to hell on a handbasket." It's a judgment and a belief, also devoid of fact though the person with that belief/judgment will have factual evidence to back up their claim. It's their interpretation of said facts that is judgment/belief. Meanwhile, facts are just facts: The Senate today has 50 senators who caucus with Republicans and 50 who caucus with Democrats. There's no real judgment here so I might be lost on your last point about facts = judgments...? Either which way, thanks for noticing how it all gets "shouted in the discourse." :)
If beliefs are presented as facts, then de facto these facts are judgments in disguise. Raising consciousness about the relationship between beliefs/facts/judgments will crack the stalemate of politics as usual. Judgments separate us, in plain sight.
This was a fun one to play: Guess the Judgement! I'd say I racked up a near perfect score. Now comes to putting it to work in the real world... Thanks for another great article!
Hear, hear!
